Calculate your gold loan EMI

Gold loans are secured against jewellery, so rates are usually lower and terms shorter. See your monthly installment.

What is a gold loan EMI?

A gold loan EMI is the fixed monthly installment on money borrowed against jewellery or gold held as collateral by the lender. Because the loan is secured by an easily valued asset, approval is typically fast and rates sit below those of unsecured personal loans.

Advance vs arrears — what actually differs

Both schemes charge the same interest rate on the same loan. The only difference is when each installment falls due — and that timing changes how much interest accrues over the life of the loan.

Because gold loans are secured by jewellery held as collateral, lenders can offer lower rates and faster approval than unsecured personal loans. Terms are typically short, often one to three years, which keeps the total interest low even though the rate isn't the lowest available.

Advance (EMI in advance)

The first installment is deducted at disbursement, before any interest has accrued. Every later installment is then calculated on a slightly lower balance, so total interest paid over the loan is a little lower.

Arrears (standard EMI)

The first installment falls due one month after disbursement, after a full month of interest has already built up. This is the more common structure for most loans.

How the gold loan EMI calculator formula works

EMI = P × R × (1+R)ⁿ ÷ [(1+R)ⁿ − 1], where P is the loan amount, R is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and N is the number of monthly installments.

For a loan of 200,000 over 24 months at 9% annual interest, the EMI comes to about 9,137 a month, with total interest of roughly 19,287 over the two-year term.

Why use this calculator

  • See how a short tenure keeps total interest low even on a mid-range rate
  • Compare a gold loan's EMI against an unsecured personal loan for the same amount
  • Check the monthly commitment fits your budget before pledging jewellery as collateral
  • Plan repayment before the term ends to avoid risk to the pledged gold

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I can't repay a gold loan?

If you default, the lender has the right to auction the pledged gold to recover the outstanding amount, as specified in your loan agreement. It's worth confirming the exact default terms with your lender before borrowing.

Why are gold loan interest rates often lower than personal loan rates?

Gold loans are secured by collateral the lender can easily value and liquidate if needed, which lowers the lender's risk compared to an unsecured personal loan. That reduced risk is typically reflected in a lower interest rate.

What is EMI?

EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment — a fixed payment made each month toward a loan, made up of a portion of the principal and a portion of interest. The size of each portion changes over time, but the total payment stays the same for the life of the loan.

What's the difference between advance and arrears EMI?

In the advance scheme, your first installment is deducted at disbursement, before any interest has accrued, so total interest ends up slightly lower. In the arrears scheme (the more common structure), the first installment falls due one month after disbursement, after a full month of interest has already built up.

Is the EMI shown here exactly what my lender will charge?

This calculator gives an accurate estimate based on the numbers you enter, but real loans often include processing fees, insurance, or other charges that aren't part of the base EMI formula. Confirm the exact terms with your lender before borrowing.
